Eight science and technology stories landed on 8 October 2026, and this Daily Info Dose roundup brings them together in one video.
It starts in deep space. Astronomers have identified a microblazar — a miniature quasar whose high-speed particle jet points almost directly at Earth — which may produce some of the fastest particles in the Milky Way. In another first, astronomers detected a repeating radio signal coming directly from the exoplanet Beta Pictoris b, giving a first glimpse of an exoplanet's magnetic field.
Back on Earth, Danaher plans to launch its first AI-powered autonomous research lab in early 2027, where AI designs molecules and robots build and test them, aiming for much faster drug discovery. Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra with Nvidia's RTX Spark chip, alongside a more capable Copilot for Windows. Google, meanwhile, rolled out its improved SynthID detector worldwide for free, using invisible watermarks to help reveal AI-made media.
In construction, DALE — the drilling robot from August Robotics and DEWALT — was honoured for drilling up to ten times faster than conventional methods with over 99 percent accuracy across hundreds of thousands of holes in data-centre pilots. In India, Tata Power and Norway's Ocean Sun will pilot a membrane-based floating solar system at the Mulshi reservoir in Maharashtra, a design that could make floating solar cheaper and simpler. Finally, researchers at KAIST developed a new etching-flux method to control exactly where atom-thin 2D semiconductor crystals grow, a step towards stacked 3D chips for AI hardware.
