The Hidden Cables That Make AI Fast

The Hidden Cables That Make AI Fast

Everyone talks about AI chips. But chips are only half the story. Inside the giant data centres that run AI, the servers must talk to each other at incredible speed, and that job belongs to the cables and connections between them.

A company called Credo is showing new technology built for exactly this. Its new optical backplane moves data using light, and it can be up to ten times faster than old copper connections. Its ZeroFlap cables move one point six terabits of data every second, and they can watch themselves for problems in real time.

Credo is showing these products at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose, California. The simple idea is this: the chips are the brains of AI, but the cables are the superhighways. And without fast superhighways, even the smartest brain is slow.
